The Zimmer's Story<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Just after the 1870 war, Alsatian families who wanted to remain French moved to Paris and set up large brasseries in their own tradition: the Zimmer, Wepler, Dreher Bofinger and others still bear witness to this today.<\/p>\n

When it opened in 1896, the Zimmer on the Place du Ch\u00e2telet was the most dazzling of the three establishments belonging to the Zimmer tavern company. The ground-floor room, with its elegant ceiling, differs from other Parisian brasseries of the same period in the finesse and sobriety of its floral decor. A bar at the time welcomes customers on footstools and sofas. The establishment was so successful that it had to be expanded rapidly. On the eve of the First World War, it was developed on four levels. On the mezzanine floor, there is a restaurant with seating for one hundred and fifty guests. On the upper floors, lounges and private rooms are available for more intimate meetings…<\/p>\n

The history of the Zimmer is closely linked to that of the Th\u00e9\u00e2tre du Ch\u00e2telet: in the past, doors gave spectators direct access to the ground-floor auditorium and the first-floor salon.<\/p>\n

The Zimmer has always attracted a large number of artists and writers: Jules Verne, Emile Zola, Sarah Bernhardt, Gustav Mahler, Claude Debussy, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Richard Strauss, Arturo Toscanini, Edmond Rostand, Marcel Proust, Serge de Diaghilev, Guillaume Apollinaire, Igor Stravinski, Vaslav Nijinski, Pablo Picasso and many others have frequented this establishment.<\/p>\n

During the “dark years”, the “Honneur de la Police” resistance network used to meet in the vast basement, where a hiding place, access to which is unknown today, would have enabled several families to escape the anti-Semitic attacks.<\/p>\n

In 2000, its renovation was entrusted to the talented decorator Jacques Garcia, who was able to restore an authentic soul to this place steeped in history, making the Place du Ch\u00e2telet one of the most beautiful caf\u00e9s in Paris.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

\u00ab Allez tranquillement parmi le vacarme et la h\u00e2te, et souvenez-vous de la paix qui peut exister dans le silence. Il y a toujours plus grand et plus petit que vous. Jouissez de vos projets aussi bien que de vos accomplissements. Soyez toujours int\u00e9ress\u00e9 \u00e0 votre carri\u00e8re, si modeste soit-elle ; c\u2019est une v\u00e9ritable possession dans les prosp\u00e9rit\u00e9s changeantes du temps.<\/p>\n

Soyez prudent dans vos affaires, car le monde est plein de fourberies. Mais ne soyez pas aveugle en ce qui concerne la vertu qui existe ; plusieurs individus recherchent les grands id\u00e9aux ; et partout la vie est remplie. Soyez vous-m\u00eame. Surtout n\u2019affectez pas l\u2019amiti\u00e9. Non plus ne soyez cynique en amour, car il est en face de toute st\u00e9rilit\u00e9 et de tout d\u00e9senchantement aussi \u00e9ternel que l\u2019herbe.<\/p>\n

Prenez avec bont\u00e9 le conseil des ann\u00e9es, en renon\u00e7ant avec gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 votre jeunesse. Fortifiez une puissance d\u2019esprit pour vous prot\u00e9ger en cas de malheur soudain. Mais ne vous chagrinez pas avec vos chim\u00e8res. De nombreuses peurs naissent de la fatigue et de la solitude.<\/p>\n

Au-del\u00e0 d\u2019une discipline saine, soyez doux avec vous-m\u00eame. Vous \u00eates un enfant de l\u2019univers ; pas moins que les arbres et les \u00e9toiles, vous avez le droit d\u2019\u00eatre ici. Et qu\u2019il vous soit clair ou non, l\u2019univers se d\u00e9roule sans doute comme il le devrait. Soyez en paix avec Dieu, quelle que soit votre conception de lui. Et quels que soient vos travaux et vos r\u00eaves, gardez dans le d\u00e9sarroi bruyant de la vie, la paix dans votre \u00e2me. Avec toutes ses perfidies, ses besognes fastidieuses et ses r\u00eaves bris\u00e9s, le monde est pourtant beau.<\/p>\n
