The history of the Zimmer, created in 1896, is closely linked to that of the Théâtre du Châtelet: in the past, doors allowed spectators to enter the theatre directly.
This establishment has always welcomed a prestigious clientele of artists and writers. Famous figures such as Jules Verne, Emile Zola, Marcel Proust, Sarah Bernhardt, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Claude Debussy and many others have visited this historic venue.
During the “dark years”, the “Honneur de la Police” resistance network met in the vast basement, where a hiding place, access to which is unknown today, would have enabled several families to escape anti-Semitic persecution.
In 2000, its renovation was entrusted to the famous decorator Jacques Garcia, who was able to restore an authentic soul to this place steeped in history, making the Place du Châtelet one of the most beautiful cafés in Paris.
